Summer Brings an Increased Need for Blood Donations

As people become more active during the summer months, the number of injuries often increases, which can sometimes result in the need for a blood transfusion. On Tuesday, July 29, donors can give blood at OCH Regional Medical Center’s United Blood Services Blood Drive.

Eligible donors are encouraged to give blood regularly, three times a year, to keep hospital shelves stocked with lifesaving blood. Blood type O negative is the universal donor and can be given to any person; however, all blood types are still needed.

On the day of the blood drive, donors are also encouraged to complete a quick and easy self-interview as part of the new, faster interview process. Simply visit and click on “Health History Questionnaire” link to complete your self-interview.

The blood drive will take place in the OCH Community Room located inside the Medical Center from 1:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. Donors must bring a photo ID. Make an appointment online at (sponsor code: och), or e-mail
