Columbus, Miss – This year for our Adult Summer Reading Program we will form a book club for adults that will meet every Monday at noon beginning June 2nd. The book we will be reading this summer is called “The Monuments Men.”

This book tells the story of the eleven-month period between D-Day and V-E Day and follows six Monuments Men on their impossible mission to save the world’s great art from the Nazis. On Monday, June 30th at noon, Dr. Angi Bourgeois will give a presentation on the style and historical significance of some of the artwork that was recovered by the Monuments Men. Dr. Bourgeois is the Art History Coordinator for the Department of Art at Mississippi State University.

On Wednesday July 2nd at 3 pm, we will show the film “The Monuments Men” which was adapted into a movie earlier this year. All books must be requested or bought by Monday, May 26th.

For more information or to register for the book club, contact Armand Edwards at 662-329-5300 or by email at aedwards@lowndes.lib.ms.us.
