TUPELO, Miss— Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau and Tupelo Football Association will present the Mississippi National Select 7on7 Qualifying Tournament June 28-29, 2013. The tournament is open to any MHSAA or AHSAA affiliated high school football team and will be played at Tupelo’s Ballard Park Sportsplex. The competition is sponsored by C Spire Wireless, North Mississippi Sports Medicine, and the Clarion Inn, and is a qualifying event for the national tournament.

“Tupelo is the ideal location in Mississippi for this event. The support from the Tupelo Convention & Visitors Bureau, Tupelo Parks & Rec, & the Tupelo Football Association is first-class. Teams and their spectators will be treated to the best Tupelo has to offer and, as such, an elite event,” said Brandon Sheppard, Executive Director of the National Select 7on7.

Teams playing in the Select 7on7 Tupelo Qualifying event can expect to play several games during pool play, and then go through a double-elimination tournament until a winner is named. All qualifying events are run just like the Select 7on7 Championship event, with each game taking 21 minutes with two MHSAA officials on the field at all times. The winner of the Mississippi National Select 7on7 Qualifying Tournament will be given a bid to compete in the 11th Annual National Select 7on7 Championships.

“Adding Tupelo as a qualifier has been a target for many years as the National Select Championship series expands its borders. The town of Tupelo offers a tremendous venue for great competition and will continue to grow for many years to come,” said Haden Gilder, National Select Tournament Director and High School Football Coach at Shiloh Christian School in Springdale, AR.

The qualifying events are a great way to compete against local, state, and regional teams during the summer, and allow coaches to keep the competition going all summer long.

“The 7on7 tournaments are a growing trend throughout the country, and we are excited to be the first city in Mississippi to host a National Select 7on7 qualifying tournament,” said Seth Gaines, Director of Sports Development for the Tupelo Convention & Visitors Bureau.

High schools who are interested in playing or who need more information should contact Michael Gibson, Sports Director with Tupelo Parks and Recreation, at (662) 841-6440.
