NMMC Wellness Center
TUPELO, Miss.-The North Mississippi Medical Center Wellness Center is hosting a free program, “Healthy Feet and Legs: You’re So Vein,” at noon Tuesday, March 25.
J.W. “Buddy” Williamson, M.D., a general surgeon with the NMMC Vein Center, will be the guest speaker. The center, which opened in October 2012 on NMMC’s campus, treats patients with varicose veins, spider veins, venous ulceration and inflammation, and other issues affecting veins of the leg. Participants will have the opportunity to complete a screening form and, if considered at risk, will be scheduled for a free screening ultrasound at the Vein Center.
The most common vein disorder treated at the center is varicose veins, or swollen, twisted and sometimes painful veins that have filled with an abnormal collection of blood. Symptoms include fullness in the legs, aching in the legs, visible veins, swelling, discoloration of the skin at the ankle, and even skin ulcers at the ankle. Varicose veins are usually diagnosed through a physical examination while standing and by ultrasound that looks at blood flow in the veins, particular the valves in the lower leg.
A light lunch will be provided for those who pre-register by calling (662) 377-4141 or 1-800-THE DESK (1-800-843-3375). For more information about the NMMC Vein Center, visit www.nmhs.net/vein_center.php.
