–This annual weekend in October, which honors the world-renowned alumna Eudora Welty, draws noted authors, journalists, scholars and artists to The W. This year’s Eudora Welty Writers’ Symposium theme is “‘Alive as Ever, on the Brink of Oblivion’: Southern Writers in the Eye of the Storm.” Ellen Gilchrist, long considered a major voice in Southern Literature, will be the keynote speaker. Other confirmed authors include Michael Farris Smith, Holly Goddard Jones, Cary Holladay and Steve Yates. For more information, visit www.muw.edu/welty.

–Each fall MUW hosts the Welty Gala on campus. The featured speaker will be Po Bronson author of “Why Do I Love These People?” and “What Should I Do With My Life?” Tickets are sold at different levels and offer opportunities for attendees to enjoy a private reception with the guest speaker along with premium seating during dinner.
