Verona, Miss. – (WCBI) It was an opportunity for area farmers to ask questions about changes in the Farm Bill.

Wednesday afternoon, U.S. Department of Agriculture officials, along with staff from the Senate Agriculture Committee and the office of U.S Sen. Thad Cochran, gathered to hear from agriculture producers.

Many of the questions concerned new programs authorized in the Agricultural Act of 2014 and how the payments will affect farmers and their businesses.

“The main change, for us, is we’re losing all our direct payments and that’s going to have a tremendous impact on our operation because we depended on that for numerous things, but hopefully there’s something incorporated into this new farm bill that will assist us in other ways,” says Kevin Simpson of Simpson and Simpson Farms.

There was a listening session earlier in the day in Stoneville.
