Winona, Miss. (WCBI) – A Montgomery County father accused of shooting his son to death remained in jail Monday.
Britt Dearinger, 57, is charged with murder and being held without bond in the Carroll-Montgomery County/Regional Correctional Facility.
Montgomery County Sheriff Bubba Nix says Dearinger shot his son, Matthew, multiple times with a .45 caliber pistol on March 13th.
When Nix arrived at the Sawyer Road home, Britt Dearinger was armed. Matthew Dearinger was lying wounded in the carport of the home. The elder Dearinger eventually surrendered to law enforcement.
The 33 year-old victim and his son were visiting from Olive Branch when the shooting occurred.
Britt Dearinger’s wife and grandson were at home at the time of the shooting but were uninjured.
Nix is not releasing why the father and son got into an argument that led up to the shooting.
