Federal Jury Finds in Favor of Plunkett

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – After a 5 day trial, a federal jury rules that the city of West Point  discriminated against Shasta Plunkett.

Plunkett says Selectmen forced him out his job as interim superintendent with the electric department because,  he was enforcing city rules, shutting off customers for non-payment, and he is white.

Jurors deliberated for almost 6 hours before reaching their verdict.

Plunkett was awarded $100,000 for emotional distress and $5,000 for lost wages.

The City claims Puckett was let go because of his demeanor and customer complaints.

He now works for the Starkville Electric Department.
