Balloons for Sonny CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — From afar, it may seem like an ordinary field day at Hebron Christian School. But as students play on jumpers and blow bubbles, they’re doing it in memory of Sonny Quinones.

” He was my best friend and I liked him very much. I liked to play with him a lot. I would remember him forever,” said Classmate Ethan Williams.

Sonny was playing at his grandfather’s house in March when he became tangled in a rope swing and later died at a Jackson hospital. But his fun loving personality and charm lives on.

“He loved life, he loved people. He loved dirt bikes, he loved motorcycles and he loved going swimming. I believe he’s up there. I believe he’s watching us now today,” said Sonny’s grandmother Patricia Skelton.

As he watches from above, students down below wrote loving messages and memories on balloons. After saying a prayer, they released them towards the sky, letting Sonny know how much they miss him.

“If he was here we would probably have a really great time together,” said Classmate Jesi Smith.

“One time a little girl was crying on the bus. He got up and helped her stop crying. Then when they got off the bus, she started crying. We have woods beside us. He ran into the woods and got her a flower,” said Classmate Chance Williams.

“The last time I saw him, he gave me a big hug. He just brought a lot of life to life and in his passing, he’s been used of God to make our kids aware that they need to be ready at any time. We miss him. We know that he’s with the Lord today,” said Hebron Chrisitian School Pastor Andy Parrish.

It’s that knowledge that makes everyday a little easier for these students, knowing Sonny’s in a better place and lives on in their hearts.

The school is collecting donations for new playground equipment in honor of Sonny.
