Fired Police Dog May Get New Job

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – Fred the K-9 police dog, fired from his job with the city of Gulfport, may find new employment with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/N9oqFB ) that Gulfport police decided Fred was too distracted while on the job to be effective and will be returned to the school that trained him.

Roger Abshire, owner of US K-9 Unlimited in Kaplan, La., says he expects Fred’s career to continue.

Maj. Tony Sauro of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office says the department hopes to bring the 3-year-old Belgian Malinois onto the force.
