CHICKENBONE, Miss. (WCBI) – A small volunteer fire department gets a big award from a national restaurant chain.

Firehouse Subs gave the Chickenbone V-F-D more than $16,700 in potentially life saving equipment.

Donated items include 30 portable radios and 16 Motorola pagers.

They replace Chickenbone’s outdated equipment and are compatible with the regions new system.

Robin Peters is the Executive Director of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

Robin says, “This really benefits the volunteer fire departments, because they don’t have all the resources that some of the municipalities have available to them. So we are able to fund them with equipment that they have no other way of getting access to.”

Chickenbone is located in Calhoun County.

It’s VFD was formed in 2005, following Hurricane Katrina.
