JACKSON — Former Mississippi Gov. Ronnie Musgrove is starting a new business.

He and George Shelton, a former aide, are launching Company.Politics, which Shelton says aims to help businesses improve reputations and links to government. Shelton helped Democrat Musgrove get elected in 1999, but left to become a consultant and then head of reputation management for Wal-Mart Stores. There, he helped lead efforts to improve Wal-Mart’s environmental footprint, as well as launch a $4 generic drug program.

Shelton says Company.Politics has signed up clients, but isn’t disclosing their names.

The firm has offices in Fayetteville, Ark., and Jackson, Miss., and plans one in Washington, D.C.

Shelton says Musgrove, who lost re-election to Haley Barbour in 2003, will keep working for the Copeland, Cook, Taylor & Bush law firm, based in Ridgeland, Miss.
