Former Noxubee Tiger Named to 2013 Jerry Rice Award Watch List

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — One former area high school football player has already made a name for himself at the next level.

Former Noxubee County Tiger Javancy Jones, who is now with the Jackson State Tigers, was named to the 2013 Jerry Rice Award watch list on Wednesday. The award is given to the top freshman, either true or redshirt, in the Football Championship Subdivision.

The 20-player watch list was announced Wednesday and includes top talent from some of the premier FCS programs including Sam Houston State, Appalachian State, Eastern Washington, and James Madison.

Jones has played in six games for the Tigers this season and has helped JSU to a 4-2 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in SWAC play.

His stat line after six games with JSU: 29 total tackles (14 solo), 10.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 2 pass breakups, 1 quarterback hit, 1 forced fumble, and 1 touchdown.

Javancy and JSU will face off against in-state foe Mississippi Valley State this Saturday.
