Friday: Clouds will be increasing from west to east today with rain arriving later in the day. The latest forecast models have sped up the timing of the front making the forecast for the high school football games a little questionable. Indeed bring your ponchos with you (and for the moms out there, extra bags for the dirty football, cheerleading and band uniforms)! We could very well get away with getting the entire football game in and then rain arriving as the game ends. Some of us could start seeing the rain arrive during the 3rd and 4th quarter. Some of these storms may contain lightning which indeed would delay the game. Meanwhile, highs will be in the upper 80s and overnight temperatures will fall into the upper 60s. By the time the rain moves through, we could see some areas with rainfall totals exceeding 2″.
Saturday: Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely first thing in the morning. Areas of heavy rain are possible and some locations may see over 1-2″ of rain. Some lightning will also be associated with these storms. Skies will be cloudy and high temperatures struggling to get out of the upper 70s. But if we can get the front to move out quicker (as latest models suggest) we may see highs in the upper 80s. Timing is everything for the high temperatures on Saturday. Drier conditions should begin to take over between 1-3pm making kickoff for the MSU game in Starkville and the Bama game in T-Town a green light.
Sunday (First Day of Fall Y’all!): Fall begins at 3:44 PM. And no doubt it will feel every bit of Fall! Afternoon highs will be in the low 80s and feeling great courtesy of the front on Saturday.
Looking Ahead: An unsettled weather pattern is in store for us beginning next work week. More tropical moisture is slated to move in. This is a change in the forecast from just yesterday. I’ve introduced a 30% chance on Monday and a 40% chance on Tuesday. These chances may indeed go up as we get a touch closer. But we could sure use some rain!
