FULTON, Miss. – (WCBI) Fulton middle school students make it their mission to help the four legged friends of North Mississippi.8th graders at Itawamba Attendance Center are collecting bags of pet food to donate to animal shelters in Tupelo and Amory.

The students are also asking :

hand sanitizer

clean towels

milk bones/dog treats

stainless steel dog food bowls

Their teacher, Linda Barnes, says the students have taken a true interest in the community service project.

“This seemed to me a project that they were interested in doing and we wanted to just let them understand that they needed to help in the community. So, they ended up and that’s why they decided to help animal shelters,” says Barnes.

“We started doing this as a grade, as part of our team. We decided that we could and should help for more than just a grade,” says 8th grader Owen Bennett.

Students are also collecting cans to help a group who is trying to build an animal shelter in Itawamba County. All items can be donated to the 8th grade computer lab or the two vet clinics in Fulton.
