STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — David Garraway of the Mississippi State University Television Center is being named the unit’s director after serving three years as video program manager.

Garraway succeeds longtime director Mike Godwin, who is moving to the new post of operations and engineering manager, a position he sought because of his years of broadcasting experience and technical expertise.

In the director role, Garraway reports to the university’s Chief Communications Officer Sid Salter, who also serves as director of the Office of Public Affairs, consisting of seven units including the TV Center. MSU’s strategic marketing, news, photography, publication production, electronic communications and WMSV radio station also are housed in Public Affairs.

“This reorganization of MSU’s Television Center gives us an opportunity to refocus the mission of this vital unit to fit the university’s goals and aspirations,” Salter said. “With the emergence of the SEC Network, the Television Center can now focus its effort on advancing the academic and research superlatives of the university. Increasingly, video production will be at the heart of our efforts to advance the university across multiple platforms.”

Garraway said of his new role, “The TV Center has a tradition of visionary and stable leadership, and I’m honored to continue that tradition. I’ve learned a great deal from Mike Godwin and look forward to a collaboration that will evolve the center into a media production facility for the 21st Century.”

With the ever-increasing complexity of TV production systems, Godwin is transferring to full-time operations and engineering manager, a new position he sought out because of his years of broadcasting experience and technical expertise.

“David Garraway brings a great deal of knowledge and organizational skills to these new responsibilities and we believe he will grow the center’s client base,” Salter said. “In Mike Godwin, we are indeed fortunate to be able to maintain the input and guidance of one of the pioneers in higher education video and television operations.”

Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the TV Center, Garraway will provide leadership to the state’s largest higher education video production facility which offers broadcast quality educational, marketing and promotional projects for both traditional and new media.

Prior to joining MSU, Garraway served as producer and operations manager for a television production facility in Hattiesburg, his hometown. He received a bachelor’s degree in radio, television, and film production and a master’s degree in mass communication, both from the University of Southern Mississippi. Currently, he’s pursuing a master of business administration degree from MSU.

Two other appointments are part of the TV Center’s reorganization. They include Steve Carver moving from part-time associate producer to interim senior producer; and Hal Teasler moving from graphic designer for Public Affairs to videographic coordinator for the TV Center.

TV Center offices are located in the MSU Wise Center. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
