COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Golden Triangle woman is thanking several Good Samaritans after they returned her lost checkbook.

It had checks and hundreds of dollars of cash inside it.

“I’d spent several days thinking I had misplaced it at home, and I never did find it,” said Michelle Parsons.

But Parsons’ checkbook was actually at the Columbus Chick-fil-A. She had left it by the condiments when she stopped in for lunch.

Another customer found it, and turned it in to an employee.

Then store owner Freda Kyle took matters into her own hands.

“Her address was in there, so my husband and I drove over to her house, so she wasn’t home, so we left her a business card,” Kyle said.

Parsons says she was surprised to find the business card on her front door. And again, when she picked up her checkbook, and saw that all $450 cash was still in it .

“She was ecstatically happy,” Kyle said. “She couldn’t believe that somebody would do that, because you’ve got an honest customer, you’ve got employees who are very honest, and it just all worked together. Any one of them could’ve taken it, and nobody would’ve ever known the difference.”

“Several Good Samaritans that for sure restored my faith in humanity and also in the good people at Columbus, Chick-fil-A,” Parsons said.

Parsons offered to do something for Kyle and her employees in return, but they didn’t want anything.

And they would do it again.

“It’s just what you do right, and that’s the way it is,” Kyle said. “Chick-fil-A’s operated on honor, dignity and respect to all people.”

Parsons says she’s now extra careful with her checkbook, so she won’t leave it again.
