GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — Six-term incumbent Thad Cochran and challenger Chris McDaniel are trying to motivate campaign-weary voters to turn out for Tuesday’s Republican primary runoff for the U.S. Senate.

Cochran is scheduled to appear Sunday evening in Gulfport with Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the 2008 Republican nominee for president.

A Tea Party Express rally in Biloxi Sunday afternoon was designed to drum up support for McDaniel. The state senator from Ellisville finished 1,418 votes ahead of Cochran in a three-person primary June 3, but nobody received a majority needed to win.

About 200 people attended the McDaniel rally in the Hobby Lobby parking lot in Biloxi.

Lloyd Holston, 56, a pharmacist from Hurley says government should have to balance its budget.

Holston and his wife held signs calling for change in government.
