Gov. Bryant Sets Special Election for Scott County School District

JACKSON, Miss. (Press Release) — Gov. Phil Bryant today issued a Writ of Election calling for special election for a new Board of Education for the Scott County School District to be held on January 6, 2015.

On Feb. 11, the five members of the Scott County Board of Education tendered their joint resignations, effective February 28, 2014.

A Scott County School District superintendent will be appointed by the Scott County Board of Education after the special election.

On Feb. 25, Gov. Bryant, in response to the Resolution and request of the Mississippi Board of Education, issued a Proclamation authorizing the State Board and the Department of Education to take appropriate and necessary corrective actions to address the safety, security and educational interests of the children of the Scott County School District.

The qualification period for this special election will start on October 8, 2014, and the qualifying deadline is Nov. 7.
