Video: Governor to Sign Hospital Transparency Bill

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant says he intends to go to the Gulf Coast to sign a bill designed to bring more transparency to the way publicly owned hospitals are run.

Bryant spoke Tuesday to more than three dozen people who traveled to the state Capitol to push the bill because of concerns about pension losses at Singing River Hospital in Jackson County.

The House and Senate both passed the final version of Senate Bill 2407 on Tuesday.

The bill would require boards of publicly run hospitals to keep most of their meetings open to the public. Boards could close meetings to discuss employment contracts for physicians or other hospital workers.

They could also close meetings to discuss competitive business matters and patient information.
