Grant Helps Fund First Tanglefoot ‘Whistle Stops’

ECRU, Miss. (WCBI) — The first “whistle stops” on the 44-mile Tanglefoot Trail between New Albany and Houston have been funded.

The Carpenter Foundation is providing $40,000 for rest areas in Ecru and Algoma. The stops will include rest rooms, bike racks, parking, benches and picnic areas for bikers, runners, skaters and horseback riders using the abandoned railroad route.

The trial soon will be completed to Houston and work will begin on related facilities like the rest stops. Other stops will be built at Ingomar and New Houlka while larger welcome centers will be located in New Albany, Pontotoc and Houston.
