Group Looks to Preserve ‘Old South’ Symbols on Ole Miss Campus

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — A confederate heritage group wants to prevent Ole Miss from changing “Old South” symbols on campus.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) filed papers in the Lafayette County Chancery Court to seek an order preventing the university from making changes to certain buildings, monuments and streets on campus.

In August, Ole Miss said it would provide “historical context” for Old South symbols on campus.

The SCV says their main push is to prevent the renaming of Confederate Drive.

A hearing is set for Oct. 27.
