GORDO, Ala. (WCBI) – Gordo went 8-3 last season and made the playoffs. There will be a lot of new faces for the Green Wave football team. David McKinney leaves and new head coach Ryan Lolley steps in. He’s been around the football team for over a decade, most recently as the receivers and linebackers coach last season.

Lolley says the green wave will rely on senior quarterback Lane Moss, Linebacker Andrew Hutchinson and wideout and defensive back Devin Prude to lead the way this season.

We spoke with Lolley about his 2013 team.

“Some young guys are going to have to step up,” Lolley said. “We have some good quality leadership in our seniors but at the same time there are going to have to be some sophomores and juniors that are going to have to step up even some freshmen that are going to have to step up and play for us this year.

“We have a veteran quarterback. He’s a two year starter. This will be his senior year, so we feel confident in him. We can put a lot on him and he can help us do a lot of things offensively. We have a couple guys backing him up, young, being able to train under him. So that’s a positive for us. But having a veteran quarterback is something that we’re fortunate to have.

“I’ve been here 11 years so I kind of know what goes on around here. We have great people here. Coach McKinney did a great job. We’re just moving on. This thing isn’t broken, there’s nothing I have to fix, I just have to carry on the traditions that we have here of working hard and playing good football and winning games,” Lolley said.
