VERNON, Ala. (WCBI) – Lamar County head man Ken Adams is in his seventh year with the Bulldogs. His team reached the Alabama state quarterfinals last season.

“We ended the season on a pretty good run,” Adams said. “I really felt like we started playing better from week five on. We got on a little run. We got to the third round and it was something that the kids got excited about.”

Lamar County had 17 returning starters last season and has another good group coming back for this season.

There are two guys that will see time at quarterback. Sophomore Cullen Carter will join last year’s starter senior Dallas Cockerham.

“He’s done a great job. Between him and Cullen running our offense, the way we want to run it, both those guys can step in and do a great job in different ways,” Adams said.

Adams is confident in his defense. He’s adding schemes to utilize all of his talent.

“Defensively, we have a lot of starters returning,” Adams said. I really feel like this year could be one of our better years defensively. The linebackers and front are going to be good, secondary is coming on.”

The team will look to other skill players like Alex Wheeler and Tim Harton to help them this season. There’s lots of optimism at Lamar County.

“At this moment, we’re probably farther ahead knowledge-wise about what we want to do and how we want to do it than any group I’ve had in 17 years as a head coach. You take that, and you add hard work to it, it gives them an opportunity to be successful,” Adams said.
