Video: High Speed Chase Injures Trooper, Jails Local Man

A high-speed chase late Monday afternoon leaves a trooper injured and a Lowndes County man in jail.

Officers say the chase, which began on Highway 50 at Highway 82, could have turned deadly as the suspect led state and local officers at high speeds through several neighborhoods filled with children. It ended on 18th Street South just off Bell Avenue when the suspect jumped from his car and fled. The trooper was injured when he tackled the suspect and the two fell into a fence. The suspect, 19 -year old Devegas Liddell escaped and ran into a house where Lowndes County deputies and Columbus police swarmed him. He faces a variety of charges, including marijuana possession after drugs and cash were found in the house where he was caught, as well as felony fleeing. The trooper’s injuries included cuts and scrapes and torn clothes.
