High Speed Chase, Two Men Arrested

NEW ALBANY– Two Prentiss County men were arrested Tuesday night after a high speed chase from New Albany to Tupelo.

The pursuit began after New Albany Police attempted to pull over a 1988 Chevy pickup on a routine traffic stop. Police Chief Clay Keener told the Daily Journal, the driver neglected to stop and sped away, heading east on U.S. Highway 78.

Keener said, Sherman, Lee, and Tupelo Police were notified. A spike strip was set up by the Tupelo and Lee County Police.  The tires of the truck blew out west of the Highway 45 exit, and the two occupants fled on foot and were recaptured shortly after.

James Robinson,25, of Booneville, was the driver of the vehicle. He was charged with DUI, felony fleeing, resisting arrest , and driving with a suspended license. Lucas Casteel,20, of Booneville, was the passenger of the vehicle and charged with failure to obey an officer and resisting arrest.

Casteel’s court appearance was Wednesday afternoon and was released on bond. Robinson is detained in the Union County Jail.
