Highway 6 Work in Lee County Almost Complete

LEE COUNTY, Miss. — The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to update motorists on a project on State Route 6 in Lee County.

The State Route 6 paving project is in the final phase of construction necessary to complete the new four-lane stretch of roadway that connects State Route 6 from State Route 342 at Pontotoc to U.S. Highway 45 in Tupelo. The project also includes the chemical stabilization of the subgrade and sub-base, asphalt paving, and permanent traffic striping and signage.

“This project is vital for improving freight routes in north Mississippi and will make it easier for motorists to travel in between the Pontotoc and Tupelo communities,” said Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert. “When complete, this new route will decrease the amount of large trucks on the area’s smaller, two-lane roads and will provide a safer route for all motorists.”

This $26,063,699.50 project was awarded to APAC-Mississippi, Inc. and is expected to be complete in June 2014.
