Highway to Be Named After Slain Eupora Officer

WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (Press Release) — The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is honored to announce that the “Keith Crenshaw Memorial Highway” dedication ceremony has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m., July 31, in Eupora, Mississippi.

The dedication ceremony, commemorating the life of Officer Keith Alan Crenshaw, will be held at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center located at 520 W. Fox Avenue in Eupora.

House Bill 615 designates and names a stretch of U.S. Highway 82 (beginning at its intersection with Mississippi Highway 182 east of Eupora and extending to its intersection with Mississippi Highway 182 west of Eupora) as the “Keith Crenshaw Memorial Highway.” MDOT will erect and maintain signs along and approaching this segment of highway.

“MDOT is honored to play a small part in the dedication of the Keith Crenshaw Memorial Highway,” said Commissioner Tagert. “The recognition of the sacrifice Officer Crenshaw made while performing his duty is most appropriate for his family and the people of Webster County.”

Officer Crenshaw was born in Starkville and moved to Eupora when he was two years old, where he lived the remainder of his life. From the very beginning, Officer Crenshaw dreamed of being a police officer; a dream he eventually made a reality by joining the Eupora Police Department. On October 23, 2013, Officer Crenshaw was tragically killed in the line of duty when he was struck by fleeing bank robbery suspects while attempting to deploy a spike strip across the roadway.

In attendance for the dedication ceremony will be Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert, Senator Gary Jackson, District 15, Representative Joey Hood, District 35, Eupora Mayor Dan Burchfield and Eupora Chief of Police Greg Hunter.
