Historical Markers Restored on ‘W’ Campus

COLUMBUS, Miss. – (PRESS RELEASE) Two historical markers on the campus of Mississippi University for Women have received facelifts, and just in time with the arrival of spring.

The markers are located in front of Whitfield Hall and Demonstration School and date back to 1950 and 1991, respectively.

Dewey Blansett, director of facilities management, said, their office worked with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History on this project.

Both markers feature gold leaf writing and were refurbished by Sewah Studios, a manufacturer of cast aluminum historic markers, out of Marietta, Ohio.

The State Historical Marker program is responsible for identifying historic sites across the state and has done so since 1949. These familiar silver and green tablets, almost 900 of them, can be found near buildings, battlefields, cemeteries, churches, temples, forts, homes, schools and abandoned towns.
