Holland Returns To Capitol Building

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A longtime Mississippi lawmaker is back at work in the House of Representatives.

Democrat Rep. Steve Holland of Plantersville returned to the Capitol Wednesday, and his colleagues greeted him with a standing ovation and ringing cowbells.

In late January, the 58-year-old Holland was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson complaining of abdominal pain. He underwent gall bladder surgery, and later had a second procedure to relieve drainage.

Holland has been in the state House since 1984, and he represents portions of Lee County.

Democratic Sen. J.P. Wilemon of Belmont had gall bladder surgery in February. He returned to the Senate several days ago.
