COLUBMUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A little rain was no match for people craving Krispy Kreme.

The doughnut chain celebrated its Columbus grand opening Tuesday (9/18) morning. Everyone cheered and counted down the last 30 seconds until the front doors flew open. Customers, some of whom had been camping out for more than a week, received numbered wristbands, then they were rewarded for their patience with hot, fresh doughnuts.

“It was worth it, it really was, the donuts are great, they just melt in your mouth. I love it, I was here Sunday after 5:00. I stayed for two days and I just loved it. It was great and it paid off a lot,” says Lance Goodin, who was the first customer to enter the store’s lobby.

The line extended out the door as the first 100 people happily received their gift bags and one years supply of doughnuts. The plan was for the “Hot Doughnuts Now” sign to stay on all day long.
