JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – The state Legislature passed the Gale Stauffer, Jr. and Joseph Maher Law Enforcement Appreciation Act of 2014 on Thursday. The law grants local governments the authority to pay salaries of injured firefighters, law enforcement or any other employees that are injured in the line of duty.
The bill will also allow an employee hurt at work the right to receive a salary until they can return to the job or retire by drawing disability.
A bill that passed the Senate on Thursday prevents state law enforcement from being forced to use their personal or medical leave time if injured while on duty.
