House Squashes Transportation Budget

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – The funding for the next fiscal year that is distributed to companies building and performing upkeep duties to the state’s highways has been put in jeopardy.

The House voted Monday to squash the budget proposal for the Department of Transportation.

The session will now have to be extended. The only way to do this is by a two-thirds vote or a special session called by the governor.

The House was able to pass over 100 other bills that pertain to state government funding before midnight on Monday.

Only one of the 122-member House voted to accept the almost $1 billion budget for the fiscal year starting July 1.
