House to Vote on Blocking Obama Immigration Moves

WASHINGTON — House Republicans plan to vote next week to block spending for President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration.

Lawmakers say the goal is to keep the Department of Homeland Security running but to stop Obama’s actions from taking effect.

The move would block Obama’s directives in November that gave temporary deportation relief to millions of immigrants in the country illegally, along with permits to work legally in the U.S.

Obama’s move infuriated Republicans after their midterm election victories, and they vowed to retaliate once they assumed full control of Congress this week.

Yet it’s unlikely that a House bill blocking funding for Obama’s move would clear the Senate or be signed by Obama.
