Houston Aldermen Request Tourism Tax

HOUSTON, Miss. – (WCBI) Houston Aldermen seek a tourism tax. The city leaders sent to the revenue request to lawmakers just before the Wednesday deadline.

Aldermen voted to ask for 1% tax on hotels, motels, restaurants, and prepared foods by July 1st. Residents in Houston can petition for a vote on the proposed tax. The revenue would go to economic development and the Parks Department.

Tupelo, Starkville, Columbus and West Point are among cities that have tourism tax in place.
