MACON, Miss. (WCBI Sports) - Nate Hughes attended Starkville high school and went to Alcorn State University. He ended up playing with five different NFL teams before calling it quits after last season. What he’s decided to do next with his life may surprise you, and it’s the subject of a story tomorrow on WCBI Sports.

Saturday, Hughes hosted a football camp for kids in Macon, Miss.

“I just try to explain to them that the same mentality that they take into football, the same eagerness, the same want to win, is the same way they should approach everything in life, or their school, business, home or church,” Hughes said. “You should approach it the same way, give it your all and never quit.”

Over 160 kids came out to Noxubee County high school. They were as young as nine years old. The camp is free and it went on all day. Hughes brought in Super Bowl Champion Lawrence Pillars and other current NFL and college players to help with the camp. The focus is on football and life.

“I enjoy participating in Nate’s camp because he’s getting the inner-city kids, and all the kids around, and trying to teach them some good transitions in life,” Pillars said. “When you’re on the football field, some of that carries on through life, following directions, going from one position to another spot.”
