Video: Hughes Seeks Job, Back Pay, $500,000 From Columbus District

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Seven months after being fired, former Columbus schools financial officer Kenneth Hughes wants his job and his reputation back.

And he wants $500,000 in damages. Hughes has filed a claim with the school district, alleging he was fired May 12th by former Superintendent Martha Liddell because he was reporting activities he thought were illegal.

In addition to his job back and damages, Hughes also is demanding back pay.

The tort claim is a preliminary step to filing a lawsuit.

At one point this summer, the board considered a request to rehire Hughes but didn’t. The board has not responded to Hughes’ latest demand.
