Hundreds Walk, Carry Cross on Good Friday

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Hundreds of North Mississippians are celebrating this Good Friday with some exercise.

About 300 people from several Starkville churches walked a mile from First United Methodist Church to St. Joseph Catholic Church Friday morning.

They stopped several times to pray, and carried a large cross symbolizing how Jesus died, and later rose from the dead on Easter.

Residents say it means a lot to participate.

“I’m a Christian, and I think today is Good Friday, and we celebrate the gift Jesus gave us in giving His life for our sins,” said participant Faith Crabtree.

This was first time the churches teamed up for the Stations of the Cross event.

Organizers say they hope to have it again next year.
