LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — An Alabama log truck driver escapes serious injury but traffic in southern Lowndes County is a mess Wednesday afternoon.

The log truck driven by 73-year-old Robert Spruill of Aliceville was southbound on Highway 69 south of Lake Lowndes Road when a pick up driven by 16-year-old Columbus girl tried to back out of a drive way onto the highway.

The log truck clipped the pick up in the rear and skidded down the road. It crashed into a tree line, dumping its load 50 yards down the highway.

Spruill suffered a head injury that was not life threatening. The teen was shaken but not injured.

The owner of the log truck came to the scene with another truck and a fork lift to try to salvage the logs.

Mississippi Highway Patrol reported that the road was cleared around 7 p.m. after four hours of being blocked.
