ICC Sends Pair to West Virginia

Itawama Community College head football coach Jon Williams announced sophomore Terrell Pinson (Tupelo) and freshman Ronald Carswell (Macon, GA) signed National Letters of Intent to play football for West Virginia University.

“This is a big day for our program,” said Williams. “It’s the first of five or six guys that are planning to sign during the early signing period and having a pair of quality guys signing with a program like West Virginia speaks volumes for where our football program is headed.”

Pinson, a 6’3 defensive back, recorded 36 tackles (25 solo), one tackle for a loss of three yards, one fumble recovery, a team-high four interceptions returned for a total of 34 yards with five pass break ups, one blocked kick and caught a two-point conversion pass.

“I’m glad to have the opportunity to go to West Virginia,” said Pinson. “I’m looking forward to becoming a Mountaineer, but I couldn’t have done it without the coaches and everyone at ICC helping me along the way.”

“Terrell really seized the opportunity here on the junior college level to enhance his playing ability and talents to be able to take them to the Big 12,” said Williams. “West Virginia is getting a jewel because there isn’t a lot of 6’3 safeties running around on the field. I know he is happy to be part of their family and are certainly happy to have had him as part of ours.”

Carswell, a 6’0 wide receiver, had a team-high 44 catches for 429 yards (47.7 yards per game; 9.8 yards per catch) and one touchdown while rushing for 22 yards on seven carries. He returned 12 kickoffs for 282 yards (23.5 yards per return) and eight punts for 34 yards.

“I’m really thankful for this opportunity and really appreciate everything everyone at ICC did to help me have this opportunity,” said Carswell. “I learned a lot about football and how to handle myself away from the game and in the classroom to be able to reach my full potential.”

“Ronald did a tremendous job and was a great possession receiver for us this season,” Williams commented. “He’ll be a three-for-three guy at West Virginia and I know they are excited about having him for the next three years and I know he’ll do great things for them.”

Williams expects to announce more signings during the early signing period over the next few days.
