Instructor Convicted in Air Force Sex Scandal Case

By The Associated Press

BILOXI — A military jury in Mississippi has convicted an Air Force instructor on 31 of 35 charges related to a sex scandal at a South Texas base.

The Sun Herald reports that the jury returned the verdict Tuesday. It is now considering punishment for Tech. Sgt. Bobby D. Bass.

The trial is being held this week at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., because Bass was assigned to Keesler when charges were brought against him in 2012.

Bass faced charges of cruelty, wrongful sexual contact and assault, all of which stem from his time as a basic training instructor at Lackland Air Force Base in 2009.

More than 30 Lackland instructors have been investigated. Nine have been convicted.
