Itawamba Man Loses Appeal Of Sexual Battery Conviction

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — An Itawamba County man has lost his bid for a new trial on sexual battery and foundling charges.

56 year Timothy Sharp is currently serving a 20 year sentence for his 2001 conviction of sexual battery of a ten year old girl.

Sharp filed an appeal for a new trial when the victim changed her story in 2012 and filed an affidavit saying Sharp had not committed the crime like she claimed.

The case took on another twist when she then turned around two months later and filed ore court papers saying he had molested her. Despite the varying stories the state court of appeals today upheld his conviction saying enough evidence existed to believe Sharp was guilty of the charges.
