ITAWAMBA CO., Miss. – (WCBI) A small group of Itawamba Agricultural High School students are accomplishing some big things. Five years ago, the schools Distributive Education students started a store in the school called the Tee-Pee where fellow students could buy t-shirts, tote bags and other school items.

The store recently became the first in the state to earn the highest level of certification from the national DECA organization. It’s a project that’s teaching them valuable retail experience they one day hope to take into the real world.

“The first one in the state of Mississippi in DECA to be certified. It’s a very important high honor that not many schools get to achieve,” says IAHS Sr. Sam Murphree.

“We sell a variety of different things. We sell country meat sticks that are one of our most popular things…we sell Nike apparel custom made for Itawamba AHS,” adds IAHS Sophomore Kayla McMillen.

The group will attend DECA’s national enterprise academy in Orlando, Florida next month.
