Video: Janet Baretto Enters Guilty Plea

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) — A guilty plea in a Union County case which launched an exhaustive nationwide search for the suspects.

Janet Baretto faces a minimum of 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to a ten count indictment against her.

The plea deal includes one manslaughter count in the 2008 death of her 2-year-old adopted daughter. The other nine counts include 6 of child endangerment and 3 child abuse charges  involving other children in the home.

Janet and her husband Ramon Baretto were subjects of a nationwide search after they fled Union County after their 2008 indictment. The coupe was captured in August this year in Portland, Oregon.

Janet Barettos’ complete sentence is for 65 years with 35 suspended. She must also pay a $30,000 fine. Ramon Barreto is still slated to stand trial for his role in the death and abuse case.
