Joyner School Outlines Plans For Classes

May 1, 2014

Dear Joyner Parent/Guardian,

We are excited to be returning to school on Monday, May 5, 2014, and to once again see our precious students! With thorough planning and detailed preparation by the Tupelo Public School District’s administrators, the Board of Trustees, and the Joyner Elementary Staff, our first and second grade students will be returning to school on Monday, May 5, 2014 to Joyner Elementary School on Joyner Avenue. Joyner Kindergarten students will report to classes at Church Street School located at 445 North Church Street in Tupelo for the remainder of the year (from Joyner: right on Jackson Street to Church Street).

We are committed to completing the school year with focused quality instruction, time on tasks, high expectations, and ensuring safety for all of our students. A school resource officer will be on-campus daily. A school nurse will be available as needed. Joyner Kindergarten teachers, designated interventionists, and specific resource teachers will be a part of our Joyner team at Church Street School to ensure continuity and consistency as we make this necessary transition for our Kindergarten students. Other arts specialists, resource teachers, and interventionists will continue instruction at Joyner with first and second grade students to make these last three weeks meaningful and purposeful at this school also. Our Joyner campus schedules will remain the same.

Daily classroom schedules for both campuses will remain as near normal as possible. Students will receive a special/resource class each day. Recess will be held on the playground on Robins Field for our Church Street campus for the same amount of time as when students were at Joyner. Since Church Street is a former elementary school, it is equipped with excellent facilities such as a cafeteria and plenty of room for our daily student activities.

Breakfast & Lunch will be served daily to our students with our procedures running similar to what students have experienced throughout the year. Church Street houses a well-equipped kitchen and ample space for lunch. Students will be provided with one lunch choice daily. Our Joyner campus schedules will remain the same.

Tupelo Public School District Buses will bring Kindergarten students to Church Street first every day before taking first and second grade students to Joyner. In the afternoon, one TPSD bus will pick up Kindergarten students and deliver them to Joyner so that they can ride their regular buses. (over)

Daycares have been notified as to the changes for Joyner School and our Kindergarten students that will be housed at Church Street. We have communicated our morning and afternoon drop-off and pick up procedures and locations.

Car Riders will drop off and pick up on Church Street. Church Street will be a one-way (north to south) from 7:00-7:45 a.m. and 2:30-3:00 p.m.

Transportation changes will be called in at Joyner Elementary School as usual using 841-8900. Mrs. Jana Kidd will then contact Joyner staff at Church Street School. Mrs. Kidd knows the individuals designated to pick up your child and this will provide additional security and safety.

An Open House & Parent Meeting will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, May 5th, at Church Street. Please come and take a tour of this awesome school and visit your child’s classroom. If you’d like to volunteer of offer some help at either of these campuses, please contact PTO President Gwen Cordell at 662-744-2544 or gwcordell@icloud.com.

We cannot wait to see our special Joyner students on Monday!

Sincerely,

Kimberly Foster

Principal
