Kosciusko Plant Expansion Opens

PRESS RELEASE

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.—Gov. Phil Bryant and officials from Attala Steel Industries cut the ribbon today on the addition of a galvanizing facility at the company’s steel mill in Kosciusko, Miss. The expansion represents a company investment of $5 million and is creating 20 new jobs, nine of which have already been filled. The company currently employs 34 workers.

Attala Steel’s new 30,000-square-foot galvanizing facility will complement the company’s existing structural steel mill and fabrication plant. The addition of the galvanizing operation, which will utilize the latest advances in environmental technology, positions Attala Steel as the only steelmaker in the U.S. with all three processing facilities in one location.

“When companies such as Attala Steel choose to further invest in their existing operations and create jobs for the residents of Mississippi, it reinforces the fact that Mississippi works and is a great place for businesses to operate,” Gov. Bryant said. “I congratulate the team at Attala Steel on the opening of their new galvanizing facility, and I wish the company many years of success in Kosciusko.”

“We believe in Kosciusko, and we believe in Mississippi. What is good for our city and state is good for us all,” said Billy Atwood, owner of Attala Steel Industries.

The Mississippi Development Authority provided assistance in support of the project to help transport equipment to the new facility.

“Attala Steel’s expansion is another great sign that the economy in Mississippi is getting stronger. I appreciate the company for creating these new job opportunities for the area’s workforce,” said MDA Executive Director Brent Christensen. “We thank our partners at the Kosciusko Attala Development Corporation for working with us to bring this project to fruition.”

Attala Steel Company has been locally owned and operated in Kosciusko since 2006. The on-site steel mill produces steel I-beams used in utility scale solar installations throughout the USA and foreign countries.
