Lamar County Farmer Helps Feed Children

VERNON, Ala. (WCBI) – Needy local children will have healthy meals thanks to the generosity of a Lamar County Dairy Farmer.

Will Gilmer recently won an award from the U-S Farmers and Ranchers Alliance.

That award came with $5,000 dollars that Will can donate to the charity of his choice.

He selected the West Alabama Food Bank.

Wednesday (5-1), at Vernon Elementary, he presented a $4,000 check to the food bank.

It will be used to discreetly provide nutritious meals for needy children to eat on weekends.

Will says, ” As a farmer, it is a great honor to be able to give back to the community. It is particularly in the area of food, because that is what I produce. You know, there are a lot of needy kids in Lamar County, and it’s great to have an opportunity to give back.”

Will donated the other thousand dollars to the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation.
