AUBURN, Ala. (WCBI Sports/MSU Athletics) – In a tough ending for the Bulldogs, Mississippi State fell in the final minute to Auburn on the road 24-20 Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium in the 2013 Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.

Auburn jumped out to an 11-0 lead before MSU climbed back into the contest in the second quarter, trailing only 14-13 at halftime.

In the second half, State seemed to take control of the contest, taking a 20-14 lead of its own in the third quarter, while holding the Tigers to just three points until the final seconds of the game.

MSU had out-gained Auburn offensively until the final drive when the Tigers scored the game-winning touchdown with 10 seconds remaining.

Among others, Dak Prescott was a bright spot for Dan Mullen’s team in his second-straight start under center, as he was 15-for-28 passing for 213 yards and also amassed 133 yards and two touchdowns rushing.

Junior Robert Johnson led the team with four catches for 84 yards and sophomore linebacker Benardrick McKinney led all players with nine tackles.

MSU (1-2, 0-1 SEC) returns home next weekend, hosting Troy at 6:30 p.m. central on FSN.
