LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two individuals last Thursday on drug-related charges.

As a result of an ongoing investigation into possible drug trafficking, agents with the LCSO Narcotics Unit in conjunction with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics arrested 24-year-old Columbus resident Lawrence Dodd for possession of 3/4 a pound of marijuana.

According to a press release provided by the LCSO, agents discovered a vehicle parked at the intersection of 18th Street and 9th Ave. North. Agents reportedly saw Dodd holding what appeared to be marijuana. After coming in contact with Dodd, agents conducted a full search of the vehicle, which yielded the large quantity of marijuana.

Dodd was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a park. He is currently detained at the Lowndes County Detention Center; bond has not been set.

In a separate case, an LCSO patrol deputy arrested 24-year-old Columbus resident Royquez Lowe.

Per the same release, the deputy attempted a routine traffic stop on Lake Lowndes Road for a speeding infraction. Lowe allegedly did not stop, and “attempted to elude the deputy” by fleeing from his vehicle on foot.

After searching the vehicle, the deputy, according to release, discovered more than an ounce of marijuana, a set of digital scales and more than $1,000 cash.

Lowe was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, speeding, reckless driving, failure to obey a police officer, driving with no driver’s license and without insurance.

He is currently detained at the Lowndes County Detention Center; bond has not been set.
