Little Women’s Camp Teaches Young Girls Plethora of Skills

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Some little ladies-in-training are getting big lessons in traditional life skills.

The Little Women’s Camp is hosting young girls ages 8-13, and teaching them how to bake, knit, paint, fossil hunt and kayak. During the week-long camp, the girls will also be taught lessons in etiquette.

For the past three years, camp directors have striven to teach the children about the importance of these recreational past times.

“It’s very important, just because it’s something they can use all through their life,” Camp Counselor Addy Buxton said. “And they may not ever hear how to knit anywhere else. And we try to show them not only how to knit, but what you can use it for. And … really encourage them to continue on.”

The camp, which is currently hosted at the camp director’s homestead in Lowndes County, lasts four weeks.
